Why did you decide to study an MBA?
I really decided to start it to challenge myself. I believe learning is important and it was just a way for me to keep up to date with latest trends and to improve myself.
Looking back on your MBA journey, what were the best parts and greatest challenges?
The best parts are the consistent learning and being able to apply techniques to practical solutions or looking for practical solutions within the business. Challenges, I commute between Melbourne and Sydney, work in Melbourne and head back to Sydney on a weekend, so that was a challenge for me. But it also gave me a chance to really get into the study during the week when I had no interruptions and then being able to apply that was a good learning experience for me.
I think the other thing is being a more mature age, going back to study after 20 years and sitting exams was a challenge for me. But I think generally, it was rewarding. It was a rewarding experience and I learned a lot of new things.
What advice would you give someone looking to study online with AIB?
I think for somebody looking to study online, the best piece of advice I could give is to have at least have five to ten years’ business experience. The practical experience that you have really helps crystallise what you learn during the course.
Would you like to add any further reflections or thoughts about your MBA journey?
In reflection, I think the key thing for me is that you can study at any age. Being more mature, I felt as though my study had finished, but going back really started to challenge me and make me think about things differently.
