Why did you decide to study an MBA?

I just felt the need and the momentum to expand my knowledge and have a broad understanding of business. My Master of Business has given me such a diverse and applicable understanding of business from a range of disciplines. In terms of what it’s allowed me to fulfil, I’ve become a lot more analytical. It’s given me a real analytical outlook. In terms of my understanding of business and financial acumen within a business and how to manage sales progression, forecasting methodologies, it’s given me a great understanding of the companies that I’ve worked in.

Could you tell us about your challenges or setbacks and how you overcame those?

The challenge through my MBA, I would definitely say in the beginning it was the time management and really prioritising where I needed to fit in my studies, fit in my time, within an environment that’s conducive of study. It was early mornings, late nights and I was also studying in-between the day on my lunch breaks. That was a little bit hard to get used to. I was working fulltime as opposed to my first degree where you’re at university full time. It was definitely a challenge.

How are you applying the skills you learned from the MBA to your current role?

In my day-to-day job I have implemented forecasting methodologies, marketing plans as well into the area of medical devices that I work in. That, for me, has been invaluable. I understand different leaders in the industry and how they interact. In terms of understanding about products, in particular, medical devices, my research throughout my assignments has provided me a stable foundation of the differentiating between different products, the different strategies used.

It’s given me an overall analytical and methodical approach in my line of work. It’s allowed me to be strategic: if I set a goal, how I’m going to get there and the objectives that I put in place. It’s allowed me to grow in my business development roles, in my sales roles and in what I’m doing at the moment.

How did you find the support at AIB throughout your MBA journey?

The staff at the AIB were very receptive and they adhered to the needs that I had, straight away. The different streams of support that we had, they would get back to me more or less immediately. I found the whole a very streamlined process from when I enrolled at the AIB until now. It’s been very receptive. Through all of the staff, they’ve been extremely helpful. The customer experience from my end has been impeccable.
