Growing up in New Zealand, Tyler learned to be adaptive, assimilative, multi-faceted and pragmatic as a problem solver, able to find the often-simple fixes needed to make things work. Now North America-based, he brings those same competencies to the challenges of health and safety. The intersection of strategy and safety management is where his unique value and contribution lies. In this space, Tyler seeks to solve complex problems in new and innovative ways, identify and implement improvement opportunities, employ intercultural empathy to understand what is meant rather than just hearing what is said and communicate solutions in a relatable way to people across the organisation.
Leveraging his diverse skill set and leadership experience, Tyler has built expertise in managing and bringing balance to power differentials. Throughout his career, he has developed leaders to find their voice while successfully leading cross-culturally. He offers his teams decision-making power that they don’t typically have and a safe space for them to feel their voice is heard and that they can succeed. This is particularly important in the new and evolving hybrid workplaces we are experiencing. He enjoys the challenge of developing organisational risk culture at the Enterprise level and applying international best practices to support regional, cultural, or legislative differences.
Throughout Tyler’s career, he’s gained particular expertise in strategy formulation and execution, change management, safety policy and procedure development centred on purpose, safety inspection and incident investigation focused on improvement and value, business acquisition assessment and integration, international OHS best practices and cross-cultural complexity in an OH&S context. He can provide guidance and advice to members of the AIB community in these areas.
