Manar El Mugammar, Chief Operating Officer at Shine Talent Group, has built a career defined by growth, resilience and determination. As a first-generation Canadian and the daughter of immigrants, she’s driven by the desire to make her family proud while excelling in her profession. Now leading a global talent agency with operations in the UK, Canada and the US, Manar credits her MBA from AIB giving her the confidence and skills to step into leadership roles at a global scale.
Below, Manar reflects on her MBA experience, the impact it’s had on her career, and her advice for aspiring leaders.
What motivated you to pursue an MBA?
Making my parents proud has always been a priority for me. As the daughter of immigrants, I understand how important it is for them to see their children achieve success and happiness in careers they can be proud of.
For me, earning an MBA was about having the credentials to eliminate any questions about why I was in the positions I held. I also knew I needed an MBA to take that next step—from decision-making at smaller companies to competing for leadership roles at larger, global organisations. It was the right move to advance my career and prove my capabilities on a bigger stage.
How has the MBA impacted your career?
The MBA gave me more confidence in my decision-making. Before, I was often hesitant or looking for reassurance from others, but now I trust myself and my choices. I also approach decisions differently—I no longer just think about them from one angle. Instead, I consider the financial, human resources, and operational aspects we studied during the MBA.
These skills have been critical in my role as COO at Shine Talent Group. Leading a global agency across three countries comes with its challenges, but the knowledge and confidence I gained through the MBA have prepared me to make strategic decisions and lead effectively.
What did you appreciate most about studying with AIB?
Flexibility was the most important part for me. I didn’t have to commute to class or worry about rigid schedules. The independent learning model put me in the driver’s seat, which was empowering. Unlike my university experience, where I often felt out of control, AIB allowed me to learn at my own pace and focus on areas where I felt confident.
I also really valued the connections I made. Attending live classes and engaging with my classmates added so much to my experience. Those relationships have been invaluable—not just during the program but in my career as well.
What advice would you give to someone considering an MBA?
Be your biggest advocate and your own salesperson. It’s easy to feel uncomfortable talking about your achievements, but it’s so important to get comfortable with showcasing your skills and what you bring to the table.
I’d also say: connect with your classmates. Join group chats, attend classes, and build relationships. Those connections are priceless and can open doors you didn’t even know existed.
